I am an interdisciplinary political communication scholar with over 15 years of professional practice in urban and regional planning.

I use mixed methods and engaged approaches to study the practices, policies, and mediated messages of both public institutions and news organizations and their effects on learning and democratic participation, particularly in local communities. Under this umbrella, my current interests include local participatory civic media/journalism and technology governance.

As a secondary area of inquiry, I investigate the local ecological and human impacts and implications of environmental policymaking and communication.
